Plop.ie ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Irish and EU data protection law.

2. Data We Collect
- Account information: Name, email address, username, and password (stored as a secure hash) when you register.
- Profile data: Profile picture and any other information you choose to add to your profile.
- User-generated content: Videos and photos you upload to the platform for competition entries.
- Payment information: When you pay the €2 competition entry fee, payment details are processed by our third-party payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full card details on our servers.
- Usage data: Log data including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and actions taken on the platform (e.g. votes cast, competitions entered).
- Chat data: Messages sent through the platform's chat features.
- Device data: Device type and operating system, used for security verification.
- Cookies and session data: See Section 8 below.
3. How We Use Your Data
- To create and manage your account.
- To process competition entries and payments.
- To run the weekly video competition, including displaying entries, counting votes, and contacting winners.
- To provide the chat and community features of the platform.
- To send service-related communications (e.g. account verification, competition results). We do not send marketing emails without your consent.
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations.
- To improve the platform and analyse usage patterns (using anonymised or aggregated data where possible).
4. Legal Basis for Processing
- Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the service you have registered for (account management, competition entry, payments).
- Legitimate interests: Security monitoring, fraud prevention, and platform analytics.
- Legal obligation: Compliance with Irish and EU law.
- Consent: Where we rely on consent (e.g. cookies), you may withdraw it at any time.
5. Third-Party Services
We integrate with the following third-party services which may process your data according to their own privacy policies:
- TikTok API: If you connect your TikTok account or share content to TikTok through our platform, data may be shared with TikTok Inc. / TikTok Ltd in accordance with TikTok's Privacy Policy. We only request the minimum permissions necessary for the features you use. You may revoke TikTok access at any time from your TikTok account settings.
- Stripe: Payment processing. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- Google: Analytics and search optimisation features. See Google's Privacy Policy.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We only share your data with third parties in the following circumstances:
- With service providers (listed in Section 5) who process data on our behalf under data processing agreements.
- Where required by law or a court order.
- To protect the rights and safety of Plop.ie, our users, or the public.
- Competition winners' usernames may be displayed publicly on the platform.
7. Data Retention
- Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time.
- Competition entry videos are retained for the duration of the competition cycle and removed shortly after a winner is announced, unless you choose to keep them on your profile.
- Payment records are retained for 7 years to comply with Irish tax and accounting law.
- Log data is retained for up to 90 days for security purposes.
8. Cookies
We use the following types of cookies:
- Session cookies: Required to keep you logged in during your visit. These are deleted when you close your browser.
- Security cookies: Used to prevent cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks.
- Analytics cookies: Used to understand how visitors use the platform (may use Google Analytics). You can opt out via your browser settings or a cookie consent control.
You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling session cookies will prevent you from logging in.
9. Your Rights Under GDPR
As a data subject under GDPR, you have the following rights:
- Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten"): Request deletion of your data, subject to any legal retention obligations.

10. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures, including HTTPS encryption, hashed passwords, Content Security Policy (CSP) headers, and access controls. However, no online system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Children's Privacy
Plop.ie is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18. If you believe a child has registered without parental consent, please contact us immediately at support@plop.ie and we will delete the account.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Continued use of Plop.ie after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We will notify registered users of significant changes by email.
